HEADPIECES INTERVIEW WITH CATHY TROTH

Today we have a great interview with headpiece designer Cathy Troth from  Headpieces by Cathy Troth, enjoy!

TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOURSELF AND YOUR COMPANY?

Originally from England, I moved to Co. Kerry 16 years ago.  Since leaving university in 1996 I’ve worked in fashion retail at various levels.  I live in Firies, with my husband of 16 years and 2 sons; a rose amongst thorns!!

I design, create and retail occasional and bridal headpieces and veils.  I also offer a service of upstyling a client’s own headpiece.  All of my services are offered at an affordable price as my vision for Headpieces by Cathy Troth is to bring a formerly seen luxury product to everyone.  Why should a uniquely created headpiece be available only to people for whom money is no object?

I have a passion for vintage and it is with this in mind, and the 1940s ethos of ‘make do and mend’ that leads me to incorporate vintage or recycled gems into my headpieces.  Again ensuring their uniqueness.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE PART OF THE JOB?

It’s the different types of people I meet that makes my job.  I love hearing their stories, listening to their concerns and reassuring them that they are now in safe hands and they don’t have to worry.  Meeting with clients allows me to gauge their personality which I use to help me design a piece to reflect and compliment them.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

For my ready-to-wear creations, it can be quite literally anything that inspires me. A fabric, beading, a picture.  For my commissioned pieces, it’s the person that inspires me. After talking with them, I can usually gauge their personality and I use that as a springboard for the design.

WHAT DO YOU SEE AS BEING THE LATEST TREND?

I am seeing a moving away from veils and more headpieces are being ordered.  Pieces that can be worn all day comfortably. However, there is something special about a veil; conjuring up an air of pure romance.

WHAT IS THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU COULD GIVE A COUPLE IN THE MIDDLE OF PLANNING THEIR WEDDING?

Ensure you employ people you trust to work with you on your big day. You should feel that when you hand over that section to them, your burden is lifted not added to. That is one of aims for my clients. Don’t panic!! There is time to do everything!!
